He lives and works in Paris. Trained as a painter and sculptor (Beaux Arts de Paris), he became a photographer
professional in 2001, working for the press and institutions. He is influenced by literature and cinema as well as by numerous trips around the world. He is at the same time author, director and stylist in the offbeat universe of his photos-
graphics. A specialist in everyday life that goes wrong, he illustrates with humor the fragility of the moment. He has been a member of the Hans Lucas agency since 2017.

Christian Barbé, born in Deauville in 1970. I currently live in Paris. After studying philosophy, I began by doing internships in a professional development and printing laboratory during which I learned the essentials of photography. At the same time, reports followed, as well as an activity as a photographer reporter within the newspaper La Tribune de Diego de Madagascar from 2015 to 2017. Taking the path of emotion, to manage to capture the moment of a meeting. An emotion that I try to convey in refined photos. In poetic and aesthetic form. Each photo conveys beyond words what is most remarkable in everyday life.

THE UNTHINKABLE RAGE TO EXIST
(The rage of cyclone Batsirai Madagascar 2022)

Madagascar regularly experiences cyclones during the rainy season. However, on February 5 and 6, 2022, an extraordinary cyclone called Batsirai largely destroyed the coastal town of Mananjary before moving towards the center of the island. Two days of hell, of chaos which will destroy the city almost in its entirety. Imperfect moments, demonstration of “hubris”, and the excess of an earth that is unleashed. The balance is disturbed. After the passage of the cyclone, the inhabitants discovered with amazement a city in tatters.
However, from this imperfect moment, unbridled by nature, reconstruction was born, a month later, in the town of Mananjary. The city is in turmoil, the sound of hammers and saws resonates everywhere. I see the radiant smiles of the inhabitants in front of their destroyed houses. I can't believe that life is starting again so quickly, like an unthinkable rage to exist, now, and quickly. They gather the few belongings they have left, sort the sheets that they can re-nail on their roofs, repair the foundations of the collapsed huts.
It is with the mutual help of neighbors and the support of family that an incredible activity is sweeping through the city to return to “normal” life as quickly as possible. Faced with this catastrophe, once again, the Malagasy people surprise me with their immediate ability to adapt to the worst.
The sunny days will return...

Dan DIACONU

Born in 1968 in Paris, Dan Diaconu discovered photography at the age of 12.
His father gave him a camera and introduced him to film development and prints in the family bathroom transformed into a laboratory. Much later, at the age of 23, books by great photographers, those of William Klein, Henri Cartier-Bresson, and even Robert Frank, sparked something. He aspires to become a professional. He then produced current affairs reports during the 1990s and managed to be published in the press. From 2000, he turned to writing and became a specialist journalist. In 2021, he returned to photography, with an approach resolutely oriented towards author’s work, documentaries, and long-term reports.

Mist: light fog.
Mist: confused state, mark of clarity in thought.
Here, the facades are drawn in sketches, the daily landscapes never stop
transform with the winds.
The sea has receded, the entire sandy beach is revealed.
The place is known. Yet each presence enveloped by the nebulosities becomes
actor in a mysterious production.
Improvisation reigns. The disturbed landmarks then invite us to take the paths of
cross and admire the ephemeral.
These photographs taken during a late summer morning in Saint-Malo are anchored
in these imperfect times.

Karine COLL

Born on September 30, 1973 in Romans-sur-Isère, Karine Coll is a professor of Modern Literature in Die, a small town in Drôme where she currently lives.
It was in 2016 that she passionately reconnected with photography, since this discipline has accompanied her on a daily basis. An art photographer, she specializes in monochrome photography, which she particularly likes for its ability to reach the very essence of beings and things, without makeup.
Her themes vary according to her desires, she deals with the body but also with nature which she delivers to us head-on, giving it a timeless dimension. Also inspired by painting, she recently tried color in order to serve her purpose on memory. The images then follow one another in a play of textures, atmospheres, and dimmed lights taking the viewer on a Proustian stroll.
Since 2020, she has participated in numerous national and international competitions, the last award dates from September 2022 during the Salon des Beaux-Arts in Paris with a silver medal, prize of the invited jury.

“ Palingénésie ”

Palingenesis is a delectable journey into the past, the disjointed story of our personal history, the one that belongs to us intimately, the one that we have embellished, shaped to escape the emptiness of our real world.

Truncated, imperfect, delicious, past moments resurface, memories overlap, intertwine, end up mixing.

Worn, discolored objects speak, fill the void that beings have left, the places resonate with noises, cries, footsteps, habits, gestures that have become timeless are performed in a perpetual ritual, incomplete, but reassuring.

Only the music of Sidney Bechet seems to guide us in this reminiscence: to lose ourselves then to return, to prolong the moment, to adapt to our scraps of life in order to exist better today.

Today, an independent photographer aged 53,
Pierre Gable works with several artists, singers, writers, to ensure their promotion (concerts, CD covers, web promo, etc.).
He collaborated with the Hachette group for Stocks editions, several front covers including the novel Purge by Sofi Oksanen, 2010 Femina prize.
He also carries out artistic residencies and runs photographic workshops in the medical-social sector.
Artist photographer, Pierre Gable, goes beyond working on the aesthetics of his images; the meeting with the other, with their gaze is necessary. His works are awarded and exhibited internationally, they also illustrate numerous works of literature. Pierre Gable is a member of the Society of Authors of Visual Arts and Still Images SAIF.

It is to you that I wish to dedicate this series You,
the “imperfect” The “too much like this” or the “not enough like that”.
Those who close their eyes, hide their gaze or abandon themselves in front of the lens.

You have the power to shatter this normative framework which suffocates us all and prevents us
to live together with respect and tolerance.

Your imperfections are not part of the problem, but part of the solution.
It is a remedy for our society, sick of normality.

Imperfection is reality.

Olivier Mühlhoff is an Author-Photographer and engineer.
He likes to create dreamlike worlds where he reinterprets reality.
His poetic works are immediately recognizable with different styles that coexist, they range from impressionism to abstract works.
The notion of memory is omnipresent in all his creations, as well as a certain minimalism.
His works intrigue by the unusual techniques he uses without ever sacrificing poetry.

Hommage à M.C. Escher

Pour vous emmener dans des mondes imaginaires,
j’ai transformé la réalité en mandalas improbables.

La période troublée que nous vivons bouscule nos habitudes et restreint nos espaces de liberté.
Quelle trace va-t-elle laisser dans nos esprits et dans nos vies ?
Cette série présente des scènes de bord de mer où la réalité s’est repliée autour de personnages.
Pour la créer, je me suis inspiré des œuvres de M.C. Escher qui a émerveillé ma jeunesse.
Dans un microcosme de vacances, des personnages de dos apparaissent isolés dans leurs propres univers.
Ils semblent envoûtés par les paysages hypnotiques qui s’offrent à eux.
Le jeu nous pousse alors à rechercher les failles dans chacune de ces représentations.
Mais la tâche est difficile car elles sont parfaites … Et cette perfection nous fait plonger dans l’illusion.
Nous nous abandonnons alors à ces mondes imaginaires et poétiques.
Mais que font ces personnages ?
Que perçoivent-ils de leur réalité ?
Où est la réalité dans ces représentations ?
L’absurde a pris place dans ces mondes en mutation bordés de frontières illusoires.
N’est-ce pas le propre de tout confinement, même imaginaire ?
On peut être en extérieur tout en étant « enfermé ».
Enfermé dans ses valeurs, ses intérêts, sa bulle, son rêve ou dans sa solitude.

A travers cette «vie rêvée», cette femme, au collier de perles et à la coiffure parfaite, vit un réel désespoir.
Cette série, réalisée avec les codes couleur très saturés des publicités sexistes des années 50, illustre l’archétype de la « Desperate housewife ».

“For me, photography is not about looking, it’s about feeling…”
He was born in Paris in 1969. A photojournalist for the Sopa Images press agency in Hong Kong, he devoted much of his time to photographing human beings, the organization of society and the weight of customs.
He has photographed Drag Queens in Europe, little girls rescued from prostitution in Cambodia, IRA soldiers in Belfast, endangered animals in Africa, minimalist landscapes in Northern Europe, gypsies in the south of France and war zones in Lebanon and Karaback. Depuis plusieurs mois, je fais le tour de l’Europe pour photographier des Drag Queens.
Le phénomène est à la mode et les émissions de télé se multiplient sur le sujet.

En allant à leur rencontre et en passant du temps auprès d’elles, dans leur intimité, je montre combien
elles vivent une vie de paradoxes, entre scène & paillettes et discriminations & rejet. 
Pourtant, elles s’en accommodent et trouve toujours une raison de sourire et de rire, même lorsque les larmes envahissent leurs yeux maquillés à outrance.

Leurs vies sont pleines de moments imparfaits, dangereux, cruels, blessants, mais elles en font un arc-en-ciel et vont de l’avant.

D’Helsinki à Amsterdam, Budapest, Paris, etc, voici ces Drag Queens européennes et leur bonheur imparfait.

Emma FRÉRY

Emma Fréry is a photographer born in 1997.
After three years at the EFET School, where she graduated top of her class, top of the jury and top of the file in 2020, she devoted herself to her photographic world, particularly to her attraction to black and white.
At the same time, she won the Grand Prix Paris Match du Photoreportage, 2020 edition with her series “Handi’Chiens, ces héros de leur quotidien”, as well as the second prize in the “Jeune de Qualité” competition, 2021 edition of the Lions Club Ile-de-France Est with her series “Il était plus d’une fois…”, a committed and philanthropic work on victims of violence who decided to free their speech through famous tales.
In 2021, she exhibited her series “Fenêtre sur cour” at the Galerie de l’Espace Art et Liberté, as well as on the gates of the Hôtel de Ville in Charenton-le-Pont. She works both as an artist-author photographer and an artisan photographer.

“ Fenêtre sur cour ”

«Fenêtre sur cour» est un clin d’oeil au film d’Alfred Hitchcock du même nom.

Mardi 17 novembre 2020, plein confinement. En allant me coucher, j’ai assisté de ma fenêtre à une étrange scène dans le bar de l’autre coté de ma rue. Alcoolisé, un homme est entré et s’est écroulé. Soudainement, les lumières du bar se sont éteintes puis se sont rallumées. L’homme avait disparu.

Les murs séparant chaque fenêtre/vitrine du bar ne me permettant pas d’avoir une très bonne visibilité sur la scène, je ne pouvais qu’imaginer ce qui se déroulait dans le hors-champ.

Cette situation m’a tout de suite fait penser au photographe L.B Jefferies dans le film. Armée de mon appareil photo numérique, j’ai donc décidé de créer en ce 2ème confinement, mon propre “Fenêtre sur cour” à l’aide de la façade de l’immeuble se trouvant en face de chez moi.

Mon but n’est pas de montrer des images parfaitement bien réalisées mais de mettre en scène, le long d’une journée, une histoire différente en fonction des fenêtres, dans laquelle le hors champ aurait tout aussi bien son importance.

“ Scènes isolées de la vie ordinaire ”

Avec des personnages à la merci d’un auteur qui pince le quotidien sans vouloir nécessairement en rire, une saga se monte en noir et blanc et installe une atmosphère singulière, comme on aime les trouver dans les bons romans. Présentation sommaire en quelques pages choisies.
Si s’aimer, c’est regarder dans la même direction, ceux là ne s’aiment peut-être pas comme l’entendait Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Mais l’atmosphère plus sèche que pesante qui se dégage des photographies est bien sûr ce qui touche et qui plaît.

Lucie BERQUIERE

A multidisciplinary artist, Lucie Berquiere first worked as an actress (theater, television, dubbing) and theater teacher.
Passionate about the art of clowning, in 2017 she followed a one-year European program in a circus school in Estonia. As a photographer, she was initially interested in the perception of landscape by blind people with two photographic and audio projects, carried out in France and Estonia.
She subsequently received several awards (Eusolidarity photocontest) awarded by the European Youth Commissioner, Jeunes Photographie Occitanie 2021 by Images Singulières (Sète), Jury prize Opéra Comique competition 2022). In 2021, she became interested in the future of artists during the health crisis and created the series L’Entracte.
She then held her first monographic exhibition at the Espace Saint Ravy in 2022.

“ L’Entracte ”
2021, le monde de la culture est encore à l’arrêt. Les portes des théâtres sont closes. Sur la scène, des costumes sont à l’abandon. Quelques pages de textes traînent ici et là. Vidé de toute présence, l’endroit semble avoir perdu la magie qui lui est propre.
Alors je me demande, lorsque les théâtres deviennent des lieux interdits, qu’advient-il des personnages ? Eux qui ne vivent habituellement qu’entre ces murs, vont-ils pouvoir s’en sortir dehors ? Que vont-ils devenir sans nous ?
J’ai posé ces questions à des artistes, clowns, échassiers, comédiens, marionnettistes, de France et d’Estonie. Ils y ont répondu en interprétant, pour quelques heures, leur personnage.
Chacune de ces photographies est un temps de rencontre et d’improvisation.

Siméon ROUX
My name is Siméon Roux, I am 19 years old and I am currently in my 2nd year of a Bachelor in Advertising and Communication at the École Supérieure de Advertising in Lyon. I was born and raised in Annecy. I am passionate about everything related to creation: drawing, graphics, music, video and of course, photography. I dream of working in this field.

“ Assieds-toi correctement ! ”
« Qui n’a pas déjà entendu cette phrase ? Or, la fonction première de la chaise est de s’asseoir et de soutenir le poids du corps. Ainsi, j’ai voulu montrer que l’on peut très bien réinventer la façon de l’utiliser, en l’exploitant de façon imparfaite. Métaphoriquement, j’ai souhaité démontrer que l’on peut redéfinir les règles, aller à l’encontre du conformisme. Chacun peut choisir d’adopter sa vision des choses et sa façon d’être. S’assumer et suivre ses envies sans se plier aux conventions.»

Francesco CAPASSO

Born in Naples in 2001, Francesco Capasso got closer to photography in his adolescence, between 2017/2018.
At the age of 17 he received a camera from his parents and from there he began his photographic preschool. In the early years, his expressive study focused on the primary element, the uniqueness of the subject and the total subtraction in the image. He then decided to devote himself entirely to photography and its theoretical study.
Today his works focus on the search for an inner depth, through his essential objective gaze. Precision and geometries are the masters in his photographs, it places a careful study of the colors used.
According to his theoretical studies, photography for him is to ask why each situation, so that everything has meaning, the “why” is synonymous with waiting, study and research. Use photography as the last part.
He is currently continuing his studies with the intention of understanding the relationship between the observer and the artist, on how to affect his mind, through the theory of the image. Since 2020 he has been enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples.

“ Vide intérieur ”
Un passé d’instants imparfaits vers un futur inconscient, dans les années 70/80 la construction illégale prend forme au sein de ce pays.
Une vie passée entre des étés interminables et des familles unies, aujourd’hui le lieu est abandonné et séquestré, en raison d’actes illicites passés.
L’essence qui rappelle les étés passés avec des éléments uniques représentés. L’insouciance qui crée un vide infranchissable, révolutionnant à jamais ce pays, UN MOMENT IMPARFAIT inconsciemment laid. Village de Coppola (NA)
Chacune de ces photographies est un temps de rencontre et d’improvisation.

Jacques MAILLARD

Jacques Maillard was born in 1966 in the Gruyères region of Switzerland.
He began photography at the age of 20 as an autodidact. Imbued with humanist photographers, he dreams of extraordinary travels and adventures. He travels through India, Brazil, Europe and Syria. The adventures are less extraordinary than dreamed. He starts a family at the age of 30 and works as a social worker with asylum seekers.
In 1997, he won the special jury prize in the “Michel Jordi” photography competition for a work of portraits of people with disabilities. In 1998, he exhibited Fenêtre sur cour, a series of photographs of a demolished district of Bucharest. His Mamiya C 330 is never far away.
10 years later, still a social worker with disadvantaged populations, he begins a long-term work on the Mediterranean basin. From his wanderings, the book Mare Nostrum will be released in 2019.
In 2020, he joined the Trace–Ecart & Altitudes association, which aims to promote and produce multi- and multidisciplinary culture. In 2020, he carried out photographic and topographical work on his city of Bulle Radiographie d’un territoire sous restriction pandémique. This work was acquired by the Musée Gruérien in 2023.

“ Des’amours ”
Nous étions jeunes nous étions beaux et la musique de l’amour nous a offert les fruits de nos étreintes. Les pages de notre histoire se sont déchirées. Les têtes sont tombées. Des moments imparfaits restent les lumières de nos vies. Les cicatrices s’effacent. Le travail présenté est un récit autobiographique sur la rupture de mon couple qui a construit une famille. Cette expérience de vie est la plus commune, la plus belle, la plus naturelle mais a son contraire, la plus difficile et la plus parsemée de moments imparfaits.
